It is a useful introduction to lead on to discussing the impact of human activities on biodiversity. It's suitable for lower attaining students, or great as an introduction to encourage classroom discussion about human impact on biodiversity.

Students plan a route for the road, which they score in terms of its impact on the environment. There are questions to help them assess the positive and negative consequences that their route might have.

Suggested answers are included.

1. How could you have got more points?

2. What would be the impact of building a road between the two towns for the human population?

3. Which animals would be affected if you had built the road through the endangered forest?

4. What impact would a road have on the forest?
