Multiple-choice sound waves quiz
This KS3 sound resource consists of two activities: the first is a multiple-choice quiz, and the second is a set of revision questions.
Both the PowerPoint and the worksheet include the 10-question quiz, while the revision questions are on the worksheet only. Answers to both activities are provided.
The quiz and the worksheet include simple questions on the unit of measurement for wavelength, the speed of sound, high-frequency sounds and loud sounds, while the revision worksheet also includes questions that require more detailed answers, such as explaining what happens when a sound wave hits the eardrum and drawing an oscilloscope trace.
For KS3-4 teaching resources on light waves, see our complete Waves collection.
An extract from the revision questions:
-
If a tuning fork has a frequency of 250 Hz, how many cycles per second does it vibrate?
-
Why does sound travel faster in a solid than in a gas or liquid?
-
Describe a longitudinal wave.
-
Describe a transverse wave.
