Student activity

A structured introduction to particle theory for KS3 students. It includes a starter activity in which students decide if a set of statements applies to solids, liquids or gases (some statements apply to more than one state).

In the second task, students are given a three diagrams of different arrangement of particles to copy and identify as solid, liquid or gas. They are then asked to describe the differences in the arrangement and energy of particles in solids, liquids and gases by completing a table (available in the Word document and PDF).

There is a mini-plenary task which asks four questions about the particle model. This would be perfect to run as a think-pair-share discussion activity.
