An engaging activity in which students create their own population of organisms from modelling dough and paper. They will discover that the individuals that they have made will all have slight differences.
They then consider which of the organisms will be best adapted to survive if something in their environment changes. To extend the activity further there are suggestions of how to use it to explore discontinuous and continuous variation. Includes full teaching notes.

I haven’t used it yet but I plan to use it as an assessment with Yr 11 general Integrated science students.
