ChemMatters
ChemMatters articles give timely context to high school classroom chemistry concepts by framing them in compelling, real-world stories. Features from the 2019-2020 school year on gold, vaping, skywriting and biofuel weave into their narratives a variety of concepts, including nuclear chemistry, states of matter, chemical reactions, organic chemistry, and acid-base chemistry. The articles also demonstrate how these concepts connect with technology, health, and the environment, along with areas that are not so obviously affected by science, such as policy and marketing.
The associated Teacher’s Guides give teachers tools, such as anticipation guides and reading comprehension questions, to help students engage with the articles on a meaningful level.
ChemMatters is geared mainly toward use in the high school chemistry classroom, but middle school and first-year college chemistry teachers also use the magazine with their students.
